TOEFL PROGRAM

WHAT TO EXPECT

The TOEFL® Preparation course is designed to help students develop the necessary skills required for the TOEFL® test: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. The course is intensive in nature and requires a lot of work on the students' part. Students not only develop their language skills, but also have to focus on developing language taking strategies and critical thinking skills that will help them get into dream schools of their choice.

By the end of the course,

We hope that you will be able to:

  • Develop strategies that will help you to activate existing language knowledge and connect it with new information
  • Develop strategies to help you identify problems related to structure
  • Develop reading strategies such as skimming and scanning
  • Develop listening strategies such as listening for key words, making inferences, and identifying main ideas
  • Develop critical thinking skills
  • Become more comfortable with assessing your own progress
  • Develop test taking strategies that will:
  1. help you to pace yourself while completing different tasks in a test
  2. develop your decoding skills in understanding what tests are asking
  3. develop strategies that will help you to make connections between what you have learned in class and your experiences in the English-speaking academic world

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Whether you are an intermediate English speaker, or an expert, most American colleges and universities require international students to complete the TOEFL exam and meet a minimum score established by the school. Even if you have extensive knowledge of the English language, there are particular skills needed to achieve a satisfactory score, such as the ability to write a well-organized five-paragraph essay, or giving a detailed explanation of an idea orally in under a minute. Our extensive TOEFL preparatory program addresses all skills needed and illuminates all question types on the test, so that students feel comfortable and prepared on test day.

The TOEFL prep program consists of four courses which comprise an intermediate and an advanced track; any student who places in the intermediate levels of our school placement test (or higher) or is already enrolled in C.C.B.’s Intensive English Program (intermediate or higher) is eligible to enroll directly in the program. Depending on the results of the level placement and needs of the learner, the student might take just one of the courses or complete all four classes.
