High Advanced (Level 8):
This class meets: Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-1:30pm or Monday-Tuesday from 9:00am-6:30pm
8 week session.
Throughout this course, students will think more critically about the content of a reading and its relevance to their own lives. Students will be taught to recognize and use the context clues and knowledge of word families, prefixes, and suffixes to understand new vocabulary, developing a larger active and receptive vocabulary repertoire. Students will be able to use their knowledge of grammatical structures to further comprehend reading material. By this point, students should be able to complete readings in a fixed period of time, and also begin to convey meaning in a fixed period of time. They will be able to initiate and conduct (lead) role plays and discussions and may be asked to teach certain course concepts. They will have a firmer grasp of grammar and how to integrate it into their daily lives. This level builds upon the presentation and academic (essay) writing requirements that began in L7.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1-7 or receive a passing score on the IEP Level 7 test
