Low Advanced (Level 7):
This class meets: Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-1:30pm or Monday-Tuesday from 9:00am-6:30pm
8 week session.
In this class, students will begin to read texts of greater length which are more comparable to academic and other higher-level literature (e.g. media reports). They will begin to interpret readings, make predictions, and identify main ideas and supporting details. Grammar points will be covered throughout the level, reaffirming and deepening what the students have already learned in previous levels. Now grammar skills will be incorporated into writing exercises that help students identify grammar structures and self-correct. This level also marks the transition into academic and formal writing, especially at the paragraph level but also by writing basic 3-5 paragraph essays. Students’ oral communication skills will increase, as they make simple oral presentations, retell simple stories, participate in face-to-face conversations on topics going beyond the most immediate needs, and identify the main ideas and factual information in level appropriate listening passages. Beyond this, they will also start the first phase of research-based academic presentations which expand in breadth and depth through the remaining levels of the IEP.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1-6 or receive a passing score on the IEP Level 6 test
